Travis Smith: my resume, bio and photos back to the main blog page

  • Raking leaves

  • Half a grapefruit, cut in its skin, served for breakfast in a bowl that barely fits it

  • When I'm playing in a park before sunset on a big field and the sun is in my eyes and I know I should head home but I'm having too much fun

  • The sound of my own laugh when someone tells me an off-color joke

  • Cashews, esp. when I crunch a handful

  • Waiting for a roast turkey or barbequed steak to sit before it's time to carve or slice it

  • The smell of an automobile showroom

  • Coffee in styrofoam

  • Carrying around thick cash in my pocket

  • Thinking that my Vancouver doctor is getting kickbacks from a small company in Quebec that sells fiber packets to help my cholesterol. He probably isn't. But my Dad would think so.

  • Going through Customs

  • Pouring butter over Jiffy Pop popcorn. Also, the theme song to "Have Gun, Will Travel"

  • When someone in a store sticks to a stupid policy and I argue with them until they clearly realize that the policy is pointless, but they're too far in to back down, so don't buy anything but just leave, and walk away quickly shaking my head.

  • Waylon and Willie singing together

  • Landing a really big new client

  • When the announcers on Canadian hockey start talking about the attendence count at that night's game

  • Me.

...But I Got It Back!

Overheard

“The sad truth is that most evil is done by people who never make up their minds to be good or evil.”

...who said it?

“Almost every American I know does trade large portions of his life for entertainment, hour by weeknight hour, binge by Saturday binge, Facebook check by Facebook check. I’m one of them. In the course of writing this I’ve watched all 13 episodes of House of Cards and who knows how many more West Wing episodes, and I’ve spent any number of blurred hours falling down internet rabbit holes. All instead of reading, or writing, or working, or spending real time with people I love.”

...who said it?

“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.”

...who said it?

“I play with variables constantly.”

...who said it?

“Only the person who has learned Continual Love coming from a heart of Gratitude/Worship can effectively deal with the problem of loneliness.”

...who said it?
