Let me share the following email I received tonight from my friend who is also my cat sitter. He lives in on the third floor of his apartment building, and Aimee is staying with him while we’re traveling.
Hi! Thought I should tell you about Aimee’s adventure today.
First, keep in mind she is now ok and sitting under my sofa.
Second, the adventure was that she jumped out of the window.
I had it open, thinking the cat could not possibly be dumb enough to jump out. Well she did, and it looked quite intentional. She landed in a flower bed, at ground level perhaps 20 feet down.
So I ran downstairs and grabbed her, fortunately she did not try to escape! I’ve checked her over, no cuts or scrapes, and her legs all feel ok as far as I can tell. She’s moving normally, no limping or anything like that. The ground where she landed was quite soft.
So there’s the story. It’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen a cat do. Of course I will now keep that window closed! See you Monday.
I am not at all surprised at her actions, just at the happy outcome. I think both Aimee and the cat sitter learned a valuable lesson today. 😊
“Almost every American I know does trade large portions of his life for entertainment, hour by weeknight hour, binge by Saturday binge, Facebook check by Facebook check. I’m one of them. In the course of writing this I’ve watched all 13 episodes of House of Cards and who knows how many more West Wing episodes, and I’ve spent any number of blurred hours falling down internet rabbit holes. All instead of reading, or writing, or working, or spending real time with people I love.”
“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.”
