I’ve just got back from a trip down South—not that South, just Seattle—and will be heading south again soon.
The recent trip was a two day conference about business blogs in Seattle called, appropriately, “Blog Business Summit”. Susie and I car-pooled down with three folks working on an interesting software tool called Qumana. The seating was squished, but the conversation was nice.
From Feb. 4-9, I will be making a different sort of trek, from Los Angeles to Washington D.C. by car.
My friend Debbie is packing up and heading East. She’s a smart woman, and she knows that heading West by car from L.A. is less wise.
She’s just bought a house in D.C. with her wife, and they’ll finally get to live together in their own place. It’s all very exciting, and she needs someone to ride shotgun for the long journey.
We’ll be heading along the slightly longer, slightly flatter, slightly less icy southern route, and I’ll see Texas for the first time in my life. Woohoo!
We won’t have time to stop anywhere along the way, but if you know of any interesting things I can photograph out the window of the car at 65 miles an hour, please let me know.
“Almost every American I know does trade large portions of his life for entertainment, hour by weeknight hour, binge by Saturday binge, Facebook check by Facebook check. I’m one of them. In the course of writing this I’ve watched all 13 episodes of House of Cards and who knows how many more West Wing episodes, and I’ve spent any number of blurred hours falling down internet rabbit holes. All instead of reading, or writing, or working, or spending real time with people I love.”
“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.”
