Big Day Out

Yep, I’ve finally, finally launched my new blog design.

So, let me know what you think of the new place.  Click around.  Dive in.  Tell me what you like and don’t like.  And tell your friends, too!

I’ve called it “Unvarnished” because I’m very conscious of the business-ization of blogs, and this place isn’t going to be that.  For business blogging, Susie and I have Hop Studios.  This place is for the personal stuff, and I make no bones about that.

Why did it take so DANG long to upgrade the site?  Well, I switched the entire underlying software (from Movable Type to Expression Engine, mostly because of the spam problem). Second, the design was done by the sensational Matt Gardner, who gave me a design that pushed the boundaries of what you can do with blogs and CSS.  There were times I hated him…. But look what he made me do!

And, for good measure I’ve also gone back through all the old archives making sure every entry was in good standing—there’s a lot of wonderful chestnuts in there.

I expect that this new site will work superbly in the browser I use, Camino 0.9a for Mac OS X, and maybe not as well in the browsers used by the other 99.8% of the world. (Hi, Mom!)

I’ve got a HUGE list of things to talk about that I’ve been building up since the site revamp started.  I’m currently eyes-deep in a separate huge project, which I will announce here shortly.  In the mean time, I’ll see what I can do to at least start on the sludge pile.

Thanks for your patience, and jump on over to the comments!

Overheard

“The sad truth is that most evil is done by people who never make up their minds to be good or evil.”

...who said it?

“Almost every American I know does trade large portions of his life for entertainment, hour by weeknight hour, binge by Saturday binge, Facebook check by Facebook check. I’m one of them. In the course of writing this I’ve watched all 13 episodes of House of Cards and who knows how many more West Wing episodes, and I’ve spent any number of blurred hours falling down internet rabbit holes. All instead of reading, or writing, or working, or spending real time with people I love.”

...who said it?

“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.”

...who said it?

“I play with variables constantly.”

...who said it?

“Only the person who has learned Continual Love coming from a heart of Gratitude/Worship can effectively deal with the problem of loneliness.”

...who said it?
