Today: worth remembering, for no reason other than that it was pleasant and, while typical, isn’t something I do often enough. Hope this will remind me to do it more often.
Woke up late. Read half a book. Decided that book reading was a bad way to spend an _entire_ beautiful day.
So I made a small project out of getting the cat pee smeel out of one of our deck chairs—no, the other one is fine. Hosed down the padded chair cover along with the chair, and that made the cover smell 10 times worse. mashed it like grapes being made into wine, left it to dry. Smelled worse upon my return. Decided it was time to “terminate” that particular cushion.
Filled pool with water—it was low.
Went to OSH, got two new covers. Also bought an orchid—it’s fun to watch them die despite our clumsy, vain attempts.
Bought ingredients for tomorrow’s dinner, I’ll be cooking lasagna. Debbie came over, she and we and Susie’s dad (he’s n town a week) scavenged at the fridge like hungry dingos eating a day-old carcass.
Went and saw “Stepford Wives” the remake. Why? Why? And also, holy crap there were a lot of plot holes! Like, don’t even get me started! Why, if the modifications were brain only, were the women now not only unable to feel heat from a stove flame, but they were also unable to be burned. Crap like that.
At movie with all above, and also Jae and Karin, who came along, but took after after the film. I think Karin had a hard week; also gettin gout of the parking garage took 20 minutes and was enough to make anyone want to eschew humankind.
Drove back to Paloma, and the under-35 crowd went in hot tub after quick cake. (Didn’t wait an hour, but didn’t really swim, so it’s OK, bro.
“Almost every American I know does trade large portions of his life for entertainment, hour by weeknight hour, binge by Saturday binge, Facebook check by Facebook check. I’m one of them. In the course of writing this I’ve watched all 13 episodes of House of Cards and who knows how many more West Wing episodes, and I’ve spent any number of blurred hours falling down internet rabbit holes. All instead of reading, or writing, or working, or spending real time with people I love.”
“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.”
