“I love it when a plan comes together”—George Peppard’s cigar-chomping character Col. Hannibal Smith from TV’s “The A Team”

I’ve just finished a fantastic, utterly fantastic trip to Los Angeles.  I was totally reminded of why so many people are so completely fooled by that city and think it’s a city paved with jewels, until they realize it’s just the reflection of broken headlamps in the street.

Oops, got maudlin.  I meant to remain upbeat.  Being in L.A. is emotional for me.  I met with so many people, so many old friends, went to some great favorite places and some new ones as well.

And the clients—oh, how the client meetings went well.  People happy with their Web sites, people wanting more more more development.  It’s all so promising!  There’s Hop Studios news, that’s for sure, but I leave that to the Hop Studios blog to share.

And now I’m in Austin, and I suddenly realize, that even though things went perfectly—no late appointments, no missed connections, a chance to eat sushi and mexican all in one day—that somehow, I managed to miss some of the most important people.  It’s like when you wake up suddenly and realized you’ve completely slept through Sunday.  What, that’s never happened to you? Yeah, right.

How could I not have seen David and Zipporah?  How could I have missed Rob Knox and his BBQ fetish?  And wait, wasn’t there a dinner with Jevon going on at Pete’s?

So, yeah, I could have stayed another dya or twelve in Los Angeles.  In fact, that’s how I ended staying so long in the first place—a week, a month, a year goes by and there’s always one more freind, one more opportunity, one more undiscovered corner of the city waiting for you to visit it.

Overheard

“The sad truth is that most evil is done by people who never make up their minds to be good or evil.”

...who said it?

“Almost every American I know does trade large portions of his life for entertainment, hour by weeknight hour, binge by Saturday binge, Facebook check by Facebook check. I’m one of them. In the course of writing this I’ve watched all 13 episodes of House of Cards and who knows how many more West Wing episodes, and I’ve spent any number of blurred hours falling down internet rabbit holes. All instead of reading, or writing, or working, or spending real time with people I love.”

...who said it?

“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.”

...who said it?

“I play with variables constantly.”

...who said it?

“Only the person who has learned Continual Love coming from a heart of Gratitude/Worship can effectively deal with the problem of loneliness.”

...who said it?
