Spending the 4th at the Lake

I have 15 minutes. I will write.  You have 2 minutes. You will read.  Later, you will say, “I heard you ate a peach last week.” The cycle of blogging will have revolved once more.

Susie’s taking a bath and shaving her legs.  It’s going to be a good evening.

Today, the weather is hot.  Not warm, not pleasant, not lovely: HOT.  It is a good day.

And so, of course, on such a hot day, we went to the Apple Store.  And looked at possible covers for her new iPad (but did not find a good one).  That was an anniversary gift I gave her, the iPad was.  Technically, I was a little late with it, but hey, most people only know pi to 3 decimals and I was well within that standard deviation.

She likes her iPad. I’m sticking with a laptop.  And I’m sticking with her.

I’ve been listening to a lot of new music lately. For some reason, lots of people have been giving me new music: my friends Laura, Stefan, Mandy, and Tuzy and Calvin, .  And I’ve been liking it.  Here’s a short list:
The Gambler by Fun.
This Town by Drivin ‘N’ Cryin
Bulletproof by La Roux

I made a new batch of beer. It’s a lager.  I think.  I can’t remember. My memory isn’t what it used to be, and I"m getting lefts and rights mixed up a lot these days which isn’t such a problem except when I’m yelling at my teammates on the ultimate field.  “Go Left,” I shout, and they do. Uh oh.

I took some of my beer to the Northern Voice committee wrap up meeting, and it was a lovely occasion.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again—Vancouver’s tech community is the nicest, friendliest, most supportive tech community in the world. And it’s a pleasure to contribute to that, which is why I’ll be doing Northern Voice?again next year, all other ducks being lined up.

I’m heading to my sister’s graduation in Calgary here soon.  She’s got her English degree, and I’m damn proud of her.

And now, I’m wondering why I’m not outside. Bye!

Overheard

“The sad truth is that most evil is done by people who never make up their minds to be good or evil.”

...who said it?

“Almost every American I know does trade large portions of his life for entertainment, hour by weeknight hour, binge by Saturday binge, Facebook check by Facebook check. I’m one of them. In the course of writing this I’ve watched all 13 episodes of House of Cards and who knows how many more West Wing episodes, and I’ve spent any number of blurred hours falling down internet rabbit holes. All instead of reading, or writing, or working, or spending real time with people I love.”

...who said it?

“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.”

...who said it?

“I play with variables constantly.”

...who said it?

“Only the person who has learned Continual Love coming from a heart of Gratitude/Worship can effectively deal with the problem of loneliness.”

...who said it?
