Yes, that is the sound of your head exploding because I’m making two blog posts in one day.

I’n on San Francisco for the ExpressionEngine/CodeIgniter 2010 conference, and I’m staying at a friend’s apartment.  Sadly, he and his girlfriend are out of town, so I get the place to myself.

“Sadly.”

Ahem.  Anyway, the bad news is, my iPhone hadn’t been able to find my on GPS for the past three days, but I took the evening to reinstall the OS, and now, other than the fact that it erased all my apps, music, videos, preferences, notes, contacts and passwords, I did get the GPS working again, so at least I can play Gowalla. Ah, Apple. If I could complain without you taking away my shiny, shiny things, would I let you have a piece of my mind….

I’ve been having a quiet series of adventures in L.A. this past week.  When Susie left last Saturday, I dropped off the car, and since then I’ve been to the Hollywood Sign, Venice Beach, a Zapata-themed locksmith store at Hoover and Alameda, an In-and-Out, a bookstore / cafe that served the tartest salad I’ve ever eaten, a fish taco stand, a Hollywood film wrap party with Allison Jainey,  and BevMo, the world’s most awesome beverage store.

All in all, a great week.

Overheard

“The sad truth is that most evil is done by people who never make up their minds to be good or evil.”

...who said it?

“Almost every American I know does trade large portions of his life for entertainment, hour by weeknight hour, binge by Saturday binge, Facebook check by Facebook check. I’m one of them. In the course of writing this I’ve watched all 13 episodes of House of Cards and who knows how many more West Wing episodes, and I’ve spent any number of blurred hours falling down internet rabbit holes. All instead of reading, or writing, or working, or spending real time with people I love.”

...who said it?

“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.”

...who said it?

“I play with variables constantly.”

...who said it?

“Only the person who has learned Continual Love coming from a heart of Gratitude/Worship can effectively deal with the problem of loneliness.”

...who said it?
