I’m sitting here, watching Law and Order. It’s hard to concentrate, but I owe myself a blog post. Susie beside me, trying to relax. She thinks it’s impressive I can write and watch tv at the same time. I’ll let you be the judge of my delusion.
Burning the candle at both ends, I am. I slept all day today, with the exception of getting up for breakfast at Sapodilla with the boys. Today’s topic of conversation: I don’t remember it all, but I’m sure it spanned current events, what we’re all up to, Harvey’s and the Canada Line, and when we’re going to watch Battlestar Galactica’s 4th season.
Our home, which I told you was up for sale, has been sold. It was on the market for a grand total of zero days. Basically, the new owner walked by, and saw the For Sale sign on our lawn, and before the house was even listed with MLS, he bought it. I don’t know for how much.
We met the new owner here in our dining room, and his name is Mr. Wu or Woo or Whuuuu or some such. He wants us to keep living in the house, everything exactly as it was before the house sold, for at least a year or so. So that’s a relief.
We had Ultimate practice yesterday for my Fall team, Discs N’ Roses. It’s an East Van Halen spinoff; I’m the captain and I’m a little freaked out because the roster is still fluid and the games are just two weeks away, and there are still people I haven’t even yet met. I’m looking forward to starting; I’ll know on the 12th who’s actually in and who’s out.
Last night I went to a Canadians baseball game, again with the Rovers. It’s basically an annual thing. Susie was out with Mandy and I rode my bike over to the stadium. The game was great—first time I’ve ever seen a grand slam home run in my life—and the fireworks after the show were pretty exciting, especially the one that fell over and started shooting burning fireballs into the stadium wall. Seriously. Awesome and scary!
OK, I’m off to attack some starred items in my Gmail folder. G’Night!
“Almost every American I know does trade large portions of his life for entertainment, hour by weeknight hour, binge by Saturday binge, Facebook check by Facebook check. I’m one of them. In the course of writing this I’ve watched all 13 episodes of House of Cards and who knows how many more West Wing episodes, and I’ve spent any number of blurred hours falling down internet rabbit holes. All instead of reading, or writing, or working, or spending real time with people I love.”
“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.”
