WHEN: As I was walking down the street in Vancouver, up a slight hill, a man in a wheelchair came towards me. He was about my age, dressed casually, picking up speed. Just as he passed me, he let out a joyful cheer. He must like going down hills.
AND? In that moment, I truly had a different vision of the differently abled. How idiotic is it that we used to refer to people as “handicapped.” Frankly, it also made me think that I’m going to try sharing my happiness more overtly—it’s contagious!
